Men's Suits - All About Colors And Patterns

There is no gainsaying the fact that if there is anything that comes before proportion, buttons and cuts, it is the 'color' of the suit! Picking a chic suit can be all the more daunting if you don't know which color to go for. Of all the things, the color of the suit hinges on the type and mood of the occasion. While it usually goes uncared for, you must always bear in mind that the color of the suit must be appropriate to the occasion.

Suit colors can roughly be divided into three categories namely pivotal, safe and bold.

Pivotal colors - Gray and navy blue are usually considered to be pivotal colors. This means that your wardrobe should most definitely consist of suits in these two colors. By and by, these colors can be worn safely at all social gatherings.

Safe colors - Safe colors are fundamental colors that do not stand out in the crowd too much. Primarily, there are eight safe colors namely brown, black, beige, tan, khaki, blue, teal and taupe.

Bold colors - As the name suggests, bold colors are the ones that are not advised to be worn in everyday situations. Some of these bold colors include maroon, white, purple, pink, olive, ivory, beige, yellow, red, lime, orange and burgundy to name a few.

Besides the mood of the occasion, the color of the suit must also depend on your body complexion. For instance, people who are exceptionally fair should steer clear of wearing khaki colored suit. Tans and pale grays work well on them. High-contrast men i.e. those with fair skin and thick, dark hair or those belonging to the African-American populations should pay a little more attention to the color of their suits. A light colored shirt teamed with any dark colored suit goes well with such people well. There was a time when black colored suits were assumed to be limited for funeral ceremonies alone. In the present day and age, black colored suits have almost become staple for practically any situation or occasion.

It's not just about color; it's about pattern as well. Patterned suits look really neat and chic. Patterns not just let you stand out from the rest; they also add a sense of variety to your dress. Whether you talk of stripe patterns or geometric patterns, both look great when you know how to wear it right. Ranging from subtle to bold, there is a great variety in pattered suits.

Under the geometrical patterns, you have the Grenplaid, the Nailhead and the Houndstooth. They say that of all geometrical patterns, Houndstooth is undoubtedly the most impacting. The Nailhead and the Grenplaid are also quite subtle in appearance and therefore look neat and classy. Under stripes, the Rain Stripe, the Shadow Stripe, the Chalk Stripe and the Pinstripe are the most common. While the Chalk Stripe pattern is for those who want their suits to make a bold statement, the Shadow Stripe is for those who want the stripes to have a low impact.

Patterns and colors actually demand a great deal of thoughtfulness!
